Velo Rank is a NYC metro cycling results and rankings platform developed by DAVID SOMMERVILLE INC. This policy describes the data used by this version of the site.
Information we use
Public profiles and standings contain rider names, teams, race performances, categories and points from reviewed race sources. Optional profiles may contain a submitted biography, hometown and approved photo. Contact submissions contain your name, email, message, optional source link, page context and uploaded photo.
How we use it
We use results to calculate rankings, contact information to review and reply to requests, and approved profile content to personalize rider pages. Contact details and pending photos are private to administrators. Matching suggestions require admin confirmation. We do not sell contact information or use it for advertising.
Photos and metadata
Photos are converted to JPEG with a site thumbnail. Temporary originals, including HEIC, are deleted after conversion. Captured source and conversion metadata is kept privately. Public images have metadata removed. Replaced image files are deleted when no profile uses them. Only send images you have permission to publish.
Cookies and providers
A first-party session cookie supports forms, security and admin sign-in. This version has no advertising or analytics trackers. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives connection information such as your IP address. Hosting, database and configured email services process information needed to operate the site.
Security and retention
We restrict admin access and keep uploads outside the public document root. Contact rate limits use a keyed IP hash; operational logs may contain connection details. We retain race history, review records and contact information for the purposes described here and review removal requests individually. Backups may retain earlier records until their normal rotation. No system can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and younger riders
Use the contact form to request access, correction or removal of personal information, or to raise concerns about a minor’s profile. Parents or guardians should submit photos and bios for riders under 18. Public race history and identity corrections are reviewed against their sources rather than changed automatically.
